ChiKEL stands for Chemically Informed Knowledge Extraction from Literature. Led by Linguamatics, a Cambridge based world leader in natural language processing or NLP, the project will allow to transform massive amounts of documents into meaningful results. By simply posing databases questions such as ‘which chemicals are mentioned as inhibitors of a particular target’ or ‘what role does the chemical have within this document’ scientists and researchers will be able to visualize novel chemical structures, design new drugs and predict their properties, significantly advancing innovation capacities in the field.
Together with his research partner ChemAxon, a company located in Budapest, Hungary, Linguamatics is now looking for beta testers for its software. Potential users include pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and adjacent markets such as food, agrochemicals, and healthcare. This
Eurostars project was awarded €671.000 and is due to reach its final stages by June 2012.
