From July 1st, 2013, and for the year to come, Norway holds the chairmanship of EUREKA, defining the general orientations of a network of more than 40 innovation support agencies across the whole European continent. Norway’s EUREKA Chairmanship team, headed by Kristin Danielsen, is based at the Research Council of Norway (RCN) in Oslo. The RCN is a national strategic funding agency for research activities, and a chief source of advice and input on research policy for the Norwegian Government in addition to the overall research community.

One of RCN’s major objectives is to ensure proper investment in R&D throughout Norway. The Research Council identifies Norway’s research needs and recommends national priorities based on its findings. Using targeted funding schemes, the Council helps to implement national research policy goals in the research community. By promoting a comprehensive approach to the creation of new research fields and the implemention of new initiatives to meet the needs of society, the RCN becomes a hub for researchers and research funders for the promotion of international cooperative research In Norway.
EUREKA serves as a network for those who work on R&D expanding the boundaries of what we know, understand and can achieve throughout Europe. Innovative technologies add cultural resonance to societies and establish a viable basis for sustainable development, increased welfare and greater standards of living. With the experience and drive of the RCN, EUREKA expects a very productive and of course, a very innovative year.
