Ericsson-led project wins CELTIC Innovation Award 2014

date of publication > 05-May-2014

Celtic–Plus is EUREKA’s strategic initiative in the field of telecommunications, initiated by major European players in this industry. Every year, Celtic-Plus selects the three best projects for the Celtic-Plus Excellence Award and the most successful project with regards to innovation and impact results for the Celtic-Plus Innovation Award.

This year, the Celtic Innovation Award was handed over to 4GBB, a highly successful research project co-led by Ericsson and Lund University, which generated a significant impact. Thanks to the G.fast data transmission standard created by the project’s consortium, in the near future, Internet and mobile users can expect a much faster, better and cheaper online experience. The project delivered a very valuable input to the Commission’s "Digital Agenda for Europe", assuring high-speed Internet connectivity to all European citizens. The achievements of this first effort will be further developed within another Celtic-Plus labelled project: HFCC-G.Fast.

In addition to the Innovation Award Celtic-Plus honours the three most successful, recently finished projects with the Celtic-Plus Excellence Award. The EO-Net project led by Alcatel-Lucent received the Celtic-Plus gold award for its achievements in energy efficiency. HIPERMED and ENGINES research projects received respectively the second and third prizes.
