The European Central Bank (ECB) published recently its eighth report on the results of the “Survey on the access to finance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the euro area”. The survey conducted between 18 February and 21 March 2013 covered a sample of 7,510 companies in the euro area indicating the main changes in the financial situation, financing needs and access to financing for SMEs in the euro area. This survey was completed together with the European Commission and is conducted bi-annually.
The main conclusions show that SMEs stated an increase in need for bank loans (5%) as well as a decline in the availability of bank loans. The survey results suggest that financing conditions for SMEs continue to differ significantly across euro area countries and are in general more difficult than those of larger companies.
