Funding in Lithuania

The Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) is the major funding body for EUREKA programme in Lithuania. From the 3rd of August, 2011 MITA has started to implement a new Project supported by the European Union Structural funds, called „EUREKA". The grant was received according to the national rules of EU Structural Funds. The main aim of the Project is to provide financial support for Lithuanian participants (universities, research institutes) in EUREKA individual and cluster Projects. The financial support is only available for the Projects that have been endorsed at the HLG (High Level Group) meetings. In 2011, MITA ensured funding for 23 currently running EUREKA Projects. From 2012 MITA will start to implement a new funding scheme for further EUREKA Projects.

>  The Ministry of Economy

The Ministry of Economy supports research and technological development projects. The partial financial support is up to 65% for SMEs and large companies which perform industrial research and pre-competitive development. Eligible applicants are companies registered in Lithuania, operating for at least one year, and intending to implement R&D projects. Support to companies is granted according to the State Aid Scheme for R&D. Structural Funds support is granted under the principle of reimbursement of the project expenses.

General procedures

The financial support (up to 100%) is provided in the form of a grant, according to the national financial rules for universities, research institutions and state budgetary institutions.
Grants are provided only for Lithuanian participants in EUREKA projects that have been endorsed at the HLG (High Level Group) meetings. The recommendatory decision concerning financial support is taken by the National Project Selection Commission, which is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Economy, and representatives of the research community, industrial confederations and others. The final decision is taken by the director of the Agency.
