OPTIFLECS - A STRATEGY FOR OPTIMAL NETWORK TRAFFIC CONTROL
THE PROJECT OBJECTIVE IS TO DEVELOP AN INTEGRATED,
MULTILEVEL, MULTI-CRITERIA OPTIMISATION PROGRAMME FOR ROAD
TRAFFIC IN CITIES AND REGIONS. THE PROGRAMME MUST INTERFACE
WITH EXISTING INTERSECTION CONTROL SYSTEMS.

Project Description
The OPTIFLECS project will carry out research into the
potential conflict between the optimization of road traffic
control in individual intersections and network-wide
objectives for traffic flow, such as the aggregated overall
traffic time between parts of the controlled area.
Keywords: transport, traffic, software.
Technological Development Envisaged
The project will carry out research into the application of
a multi-criteria traffic optimization model, common for
both local intersection control equipment and the central
traffic management system.

Contribution to project
Will concentrate on the development of the optimization of
the intersection level and the generic traffic data exchange
throughout the system. A prototype test will be held.
Expertise
The company developes, produces and maintains electronic
systems for traffic management and has been actively
developing traffic control systems for over 20 years.
Traffic control is the heart of the company's mission and a
well maintained field of expertise.

Contribution to project
Will host the prototype field test in THE NETHERLANDS. Work
will primarily be carried out by the Operational Dept. for
public space, including traffic systems; for environmental
considerations:supported by Afdeling Milieu, Bouwen en Wonen
Expertise
Thid Department has an in depth insight into the traffic
situation in the city and a tradition of applying novel
techniques for traffic control.

Contribution to project
The integral traffic control model and its user interface
will be prototyped in POLAND.
Expertise
This Institute has been involved for over a decade in the
theoretical development of models on the basis of multi-
criteria adaptive traffic control. It has also researched
the innovative use of video detection for traffic control
and the relationship between traffic control and
environmental impact.
