The product "pocket pet" is an innovative, technologically up-to-date, safe, self-learning and didactic toy for children from 4 to 12 years in the form of a self-learning pocket pet (a smart device application combining augmented reality and artificial intelligence) and a set of physical products.

The product Pocket Pet is a toy that combines a self-learning application for smart devices (based on augmented reality and artificial intelligence cutting edge technology) and a set of physical products. The Pocket Pet is based on two complementary platforms: 1. The first platform is an augmented reality application for iOS and Android, which will host a virtual but realistically looking and realistically behaving puppy dog - Pocket Pet, based on self-learning software and artificial intelligence. 2. The second platform consists of a set of physical add-ons such as printed material, dog toys, etc. All of them will be developed in collaboration with well-known industrial and graphics designers and produced of natural or recycled materials. The product Our smart, educational ICT toy prepares the child for pet ownership and teaches it responsibility and pet care skills. The toy provides the full experience of owning a pet; using evolving technologies, the Pocket Pet is programmed to emulate pet-like behavior. Practicing non-verbal communication and empathy, the child learns to recognize the pet’s needs, and adapts to them. By interacting with the toy, the child learns not only how to manage a pet, but also how to develop meaningful, caring relationships. Long-term use of the toy helps children develop coping mechanisms, emotional intelligence and achieve personal growth. This smart, interactive toy is designed in a way that encourages learning, progress and adaptation. The child earns points, picks up increasingly more difficult skills, and assumes new responsibilities as it advances through the game. This provides additional motivation for the child, and enables the parents to easily track their child’s progress. The child connects to its Pocket Pet via a tablet, a smartphone or smart glasses. The ergonomically designed interface relaxes the child’s tensions. Added accessories for pet care (food and water bowl, etc.) are safe, well designed, made of natural and/or recycled materials, and intended for the future real pet. The products will be developed following the Directive EC 2009/48/EC. Education experts and developmental psychologists will contribute their expertise, giving the product credibility and making it truly fun, didactic and effective. The Pocket Pet can be classified in the group of pervasive games, where the gaming experience is extended out in the real world, or where the fictive world in which the game takes place blends with the physical world. Pervasive games are "games that surround you", or games having "one or more salient features that expand the contractual magic circle of play spatially, temporally, or socially, where magic circle describes the boundaries of the play”. Main goal of the application is to provide fun to its users (children), to educate them and evaluate their readiness to own a real pet (and hereby reduce the number of abandoned animals). Pocket Pet is a unique toy, the first of its kind, designed to suit the specific needs of modern, technologically minded families. It can provide a) a virtual pet and in parallel b) test children’s readiness and maturity to own a real pet (a tool that will help parents to prepare their children for real pet ownership). ICT toys are still in their infancy; huge opportunity lies in developing didactic, user-friendly solutions, targeted at a global audience, that use technology to solve real consumer problems. The development of the product is going to enable the partners to respond effectively to the market needs in the educational and fast growing ICT global market. The product Pocket Pet has a real potential to be among the first in a huge market and become the market leader in the field of educational ICT toys.
