Secure remote fleet management system

Secure internet communication by applying smart card technology. Obtaining all desired messages from the vehicle and applying big data analysis. Developing secure remote management platform, mobile application for vehicle management and id card validator.

Modern cars and busses have a multitude of embedded computing devices that are connected by several networks within the same vehicle. We can expect a still growing number of connected embedded computers in future cars. This computers run infotainment systems, gather diagnostic information and control the power-train. Safety systems (airbags) use embedded controllers and upcoming approaches like vehicle-to-vehicle communication and vehicle-to-smart city communication systems will require additional ones. In 1968 Volkswagen was the first to introduce on-board computers but not before the 1980s such board-computers got commonplace. When this automotive on-board computers get connected with the outer world via wide-area networks (WAN), we see a typical Internet of Things (IoT) scenario as described in the literature: Sensors gather environmental information, controllers process and store this data and communicate it with other “things” without human interaction. This data can then be used in IT systems or directly trigger actuators controlling other “things”. In SRFMS, we are developing an end to end Secure Remote Fleet Management System. To achieve high security, we apply security technology and processes specified by Global Platform. We introduce a Data Transfer Module which can obtain all desired messages from CAN, MUX and sensors. A Security Board in combination with the Data Transfer Module shall provide the required protection. We will apply Big Data Analysis on the generated data which is stored in the cloud to decrease the risks and costs of customers by resolving their problems in advance. An important feature in the fleet management is controlling the timings of Drivers. To comply with regulations (such as maximum driving hours, etc.), we introduce an Electronic-ID validator inside the vehicle. ID validation data can be collected on Remote Management Platform securely. To be able to provide an end-to-end solution, we plan to develop Remote Management Platform and Mobile Vehicle Administration Application within the project. The main development of the project are the design of new fleet management system including mobile application and capable of making big data analysis. Customers can obtain all desired messages such as brake and throttle pedal percentage, engine coolant temperature, instantaneous and average fuel consumption, adblue and fuel level, brake lining thickness etc. by newly designed fleet management system. Drivers can monitor desired diagnostic messages such as fuel and adblue level, brake lining thickness, oil level, battery voltage, engine coolant temperature, remaining distance for the maintanence etc. via mobile application. Also, drivers can activate desired vehicle functions such as engine start, doors open/close, turn on/off low beam, high beam, fog lamps, interior lamps etc. via mobile application. Temsa will be the first bus manufacturer which is capable of making big data analysis.
