Compact system for deodorization and cleaning pyrolysis oil

Design and construct a compact system for cleaning and deodorization of the oil produced in pyrolysis end of life tyres (elt). With a size adequate to the small and modular size of pyrolysis plants. This enables decentralize models adequate to elt distribution.

The aim is to design and construct a pyrolysis oil cleaning and deodorization compact unit. This will be use in the Pyrolysis for End of Life Tyres plants that each company have. The oil that is produced in a low temperature pyrolysis unit for End of Life Tyres (ELT) or rubber has a black colour and a strong smell (nitrogen action and absence of oxygen makes a characteristic odour in volatile hydrocarbons. This characteristic is bad for the commercialization in a good price and in a wide market. With this unit the market could be enlarged 15%/20% in terms of turnover. One of the main considerations is about the size of the unit, that must be modular, small and with low cost of investment and maintenance and environmental proof. To understand these requirements, it is important to understand the market and the characteristics of the Pyrolysis Oil from Rubber and End of Life Tires (ELT). Tyres are products related with the industrialization, produced to last for a long time. But are non hazardous. So must be treated with special care. In Europe there are more than 320 Million of cars, this give us a vision of the tyres related!! Until now the major use was to civil use, energy in cement industry. One new possibility is to recover their major components (hydrocarbons, black carbon and steel) in order to have a higher valuation of the tyres. As tyres are distributed around the country as the population, the facilities should be modular in order to decrease the transport cost impact in the final treatment. For this reason the Pyrolysis plants are modular and so should be the complementary units (like cleaning and deodorization). For all this reasons the cleaning and deodorization machine should be compact simple and cheap. This implies to obtain a new compromise between the traditional technologies (ones in large plants) and simpler solutions for smaller amount of production. The market situation Spain and Turkey are similar in relation with the actual market. One stable in 300 k Tons/year of ELT and other around 200 kTons, but actually growing. To develop this equipment, there will be implication of both sme’s and some well known Technological Institutes. The focus will be in solutions that could comply with the technical requirements, economical requirements, environmental requirements (social vision of the problem). The prototype we are looking to develop will be the first prototype that will be evolving continuously with the Pyrolysis plants that each company are running and improving. The market is world wide, mainly because the machine should comply with the CE standards, and this open the Asia market that actually have low profile solutions. The experience could benefit to new applications in other oils and waste products.
