Eurostars project allows to render big objects in 3D
date of publication > 14-August-2012
The Eurostars ENERCLOUD
project aims at capturing 3D views of objects as big as bridges or buildings thanks to a special type of scanner.
The scanner is positioned at several locations and the scans are merged into one representation, offering a video-game like visualisation including not only shape, but also a precise rendering of colours.
"THE PROJECT AIMS AT CAPTURING 3D VIEWS OF OBJECTS AS BIG AS BRIDGES."
The first results of the project were conclusive, allowing the current technology to be considerably improved; a first paper
has been published by the project participants. One of the possible applications of the technology could be to check the solidity of buildings.
ENERCLOUD involves the German universities of Chemnitz and Bremen and the Swiss start-up Enertec. The project, started in 2012, should come to an end in 2015.
