E! SURF brings together European competencies in tribology to stimulate the development of innovations in industrial wear prevention and friction optimisation which play an important role in the modern industry.

Tribology, the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion, is strategically important in many sectors, including aerospace, automotive, engineering, construction, biomedical, textile, optical and microelectronics. E! SURF projects are developing better quality products and more efficient production methods that will help these sectors reduce their consumption of energy and materials and increase their competitive advantage.

The domains of interest to E! SURF are:

  • surface texturing for mechanical components
  • laser cladding of components to extend life time in industrial environments
  • renewable biolubricants for sustainable lubricants
  • nanostructured cements for optimised performance
  • enhanced tribocorrosion resistance.
