Statement of support following the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria
We are all witnessing the devastation the recent earthquakes have caused in Türkiye and Syria, claiming thousands of lives. We want to express our sadness and encourage our community to think of ways we can all support the huge international efforts necessary to address this humanitarian disaster.
Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, Vice President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and Eureka Association Board President:
“People in Türkiye and Syria have lost everything without warning – not just possessions, but homes, loved ones and their lives. Many organisations and states around the globe rushed to help by sending donations and search and rescue teams to the disaster areas. There is still a great need for help to eliminate the effects of this disaster and reduce the suffering to some extent.
"At Eureka, we strongly believe that science, technology and innovation will help humanity by providing emerging technologies for disaster resilience to better prepare for and respond to disasters.
"If you can donate, irrespective of the amount, it will be appreciated. Any donation to a trusted organisation will help with what is a major international operation to ensure that aid reaches all of those who need help following this tragedy.”
Brit Helle, Director-General of the Eureka Association:
“Like everyone, I am immensely shocked and saddened by these devastating earthquakes, which have claimed so many lives and left millions homeless. Many in our network and communities will be greatly affected and our immense sympathy is with you.
"Governments and organisations globally are urging people to donate what they can to support and assist the regions affected and all those displaced by this disaster.”
