The launch conference of the Turkish EUREKA Chairmanship, ‘EUREKA as a global platform for co-opetitive innovation’ took place in Istanbul on 13 July 2012. It focused on the role of EUREKA as a global platform, the future of the strategic initiatives in EUREKA and especially on the company perspective for co-opetitive innovation.
A large number of EUREKA high level representatives attended the conference as well as an impressive number of very successful of Turkish companies, large ones, start-ups and SMEs from all technological sectors. Lively debates took place in all the 4 panels moderated by experts from the EUREKA Network and Turkish high level company representatives.
In his key note speech, the Turkish Science, Industry and Technology Minister Nihat Ergün stressed the role of EUREKA in the research and development policies in Turkey during its EUREKA Chairmanship year. Turkey’s participation in EUREKA projects has steadily increased during the last 5 years he reminded the participants, and the trend will continue.
Yücel Altunbaşak, president of the Scientific and Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), added that “every Eureka project saves small and medium size enterprises three to five years of time. It is very important for them to take part in the EUREKA programme.”
