Eureka funding description:

The Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) offers funding opportunities for Cypriot organisations wishing to participate in EUREKA and EUROSTARS Projects.

The «EUREKA CYPRUS” Programme constitutes the instrument for selecting and supporting Cypriot organisations wishing to participate in international EUREKA projects. Through the Programme the following can be funded: (Ι) «EUREKA Network Projects” which either offer the possibility for cooperation with all the EUREKA Organisation Network countries, or with specific countries in the frame of a Multilateral or Bilateral Call of Cyprus with the said countries, or (ΙΙ) «Sub-Clusters Projects» implemented in the frame of specific EUREKA Clusters.

The «EUROSTARS Cyprus» Programme is the funding instrument for enabling Cypriot organisations to participate in transnational projects of the EUROSTARS joint European Programme. The Cypriot government has expressed its interest to participate in the EUROSTARS Programme and its commitment to fund Cypriot organisations that participate in successful EUROSTARS proposals with an annual budget of 500.000 Euros that will be used solely for the funding of Cypriot Organisations.

		Per Project/For the Cypriot Consortium. In the occasion that a Cypriot Organisation undertakes the coordination of the Transnational Consortium, the maximum funding for the Cypriot organisations can be up to €200.000.

General procedures

The Programme follows a bottom-up approach, which means that the participants may implement Projects in the scientific or technological field of their choice. However, the projects must have applications in the Priority Sectors that have been selected through the study for Smart Specialisation Strategy for Cyprus (S3Cy).

Project evaluation is conducted at national level. Foreign organisations are funded by their respective national funding organisations/agencies.

Restrictions

The Host Organisation (of the Cypriot Consortium) can be a Small or Medium Sized Enterprise (SME) or a Research Organisation provided that an SME is included in the Cypriot Consortium. Research Organisations, Enterprises and Other Organisations can participate as Partner Organisations (of the Cypriot Consortium).

The Projects must include Industrial Research and/or Experimental Development activities.

The duration of Project Implementation is 12- 36 months.

A central evaluation procedure is being performed under the responsibility of the EUREKA Secretariat. Foreign organisations are funded by their respective national funding organisations/agencies.

Research Organisations, Enterprises and Other Organisations can participate as Partner Organisations (in the Cypriot Consortium).

The coordinator of the Transnational Consortium must be an R&D Performing SME. In the case where a Cypriot SME wishes to coordinate the Transnational Consortium, it must meet the definition adopted by the EUROSTARS Programme regarding R&D performing SMEs.

The Projects must include Industrial Research and/or Experimental Development activities.

The duration of Project Implementation is 12- 36 months.

About this country

Cyprus became a full member of the Organisation in 2002, and since, the Research Promotion Foundation (www.research.org.cy) operates as the national EUREKA Office responsible for the administration of Cyprus’ participation in the Organisation’s activities and for supporting the Cypriot entities that wish to participate in EUREKA projects and initiatives.

In the frame of its National Framework Programmes for Research, Technological Development and Innovation, established the «EUREKA Cyprus» and «EUROSTARS Cyprus» Programmes, which offer funding opportunities to Cypriot enterprises and other organisations wishing to participate in EUREKA and EUROSTARS Projects.
