Environmental pollution/unwanted plant-soil relationships reduce crop yield quality and quantity. This project will develop new cereal cultivars tolerant to abiotic stress and make them available for environmentally-sound agriculture.
Will support further development of abatement strategies within europe by providing an improved scientific basis for the quantification of source-receptor relationships for photo-oxidants and acidifying substances.
Prototype laser cleaning system development for historical paper and parchment including a catalogue of working parameters to define the optimum conditions for application by parchment and paper restorers.
Development of a prosthetic hip system for total hip arthroplasty. The new system will offer the latest orthopaedic technologies available, such as plasma spray, metallic porous coating and compression-moulded polyethylene
Design/implementation of a low cost, open system for the inspection of underwater infrastructures based on a remotely-operated vehicle. This integrates high precision positioning, automated locomotion and visual inspection.
The focus will be on both on eco-design and end-of-life management, particularly because of the legislative impact of the european commission's new directive (dg xi), which will probably come into force in 2003.
A specialised microscope and method for fine and precise laser cleaning and spectro-microscopic analysis of fine art object surfaces; the system will contain a pulsed nd:yag laser for cleaning and a laser diode system for aiming.
Polymers are already applied in the tanning industry to improve aesthetic characteristics. By utilizing different polymers (technopolymers) we intend to obtain new composite leather products with higher mechanical performances.
In order to better recycle scraps and depuration sludges generated in the tanning industry, free-chrome compounds will be utilised in the industrial process.
During this project, the treatment and re-utilization of tanning industry by-products will be studied so that large quantities of solid waste can be exploited. The aim is to reduce disposal costs and produce re-usable products.
