Aqua(tm) advanced automation of elekta and ptw radiation therapy dosimetric and quality control devices.

The proposed work aims to develop the first phase of integration among aqua(tm), elekta linac control software and software for various ptw devices as current technologies for these devices are non-standard and not built for integration.

i. Current status of the technology from both a domestic and global perspective Currently, technologies for linacs and third-party devices are non-standard and not built for integration. The reasons for this situation are (1) Elekta linac control software, globally, does not support integration with QC software. Linac software development has to adhere to the highest regulatory classifications due to potential life-threatening harm to humans, if misused; (2) Third-party devices run proprietary software and are not developed for integration. Third-party device manufacturers compete with each other in hardware sales and do not integrate with their competitors’ products. The proposed work aims to develop the first phase of integration among AQUA™, Elekta linac control software and software for various PTW devices. ii. Technical and commercial objectives Technical Objectives: • Semi-automation of machine (linac) status selection • Expansion of automated of Image-based test suite (Image-base tests with feedback loop) • Proof of principle automation of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) image-guidance QC • Implementation of full CBCT image quality QC • Implementation of reference data/birthmark of the treatment unit from factory and commissioning • Integrate five PTW devices and develop workflows for all integrated devices in AQUA Commercial Objectives: • Install AQUA™ at a minimum of 10 clinics and hospitals in North America (USA & Canada) • Install AQUA™ at a minimum of five clinics and hospitals in Europe and Australia • Release AQUA™ v2.0 in September 2016 at ASTRO, an international conference for medical physicists iii. The proposed work plan outlining the contributions of each collaborating company/institution and the rationale for synergy
