Flexibility demand side management application integrated in dexma's platform

The aim of this project is the technical development of a seamless it solution that unlocks the hidden flexibility capacity of commercial and industrial consumers willing to participate in demand response programs used by grid operators for system balancing and congestion management purposes.

Currently, some of the features that could define the actual electric grid are unidirectional, centralized and not flexible. Due to high penetration of renewable energy sources and the congestion management, the tendency is to achieve a balanced system between supply and demand. Moreover, the only actors that are involved on demand response measures are electric systems planners , operators and large costumers that might have direct load control programs . Taking into account this context, achieving a demand response system that allows the active participation of small commercial and industrial consumers with hidden but high capabilities (multisites commercials and industrials, basket approach initiatives, aggregators...) is the overall objective of this project. This facts leads to be aligned with the innovative pursuit of having a bidirectional, decentralized and flexible electric grid. This new approach that this project will make, will allow a total saving energy potential of 30% by means of: - Sensors, energy controllers, actuators, automation with existing BEMS (Building Energy Management Systems) and energy audit/ installation/ commissioning specially design for Demand Response (Capital expenditure, so far CAPEX). MTAIR will lead the development of the "on-site" part of the demand response platform due to his wide knowledge on industrial communication protocols and automations. -Set of intelligent optimization algorithms (demand modeling, interoperability of local control systems, optimization techniques, and multi-site aggregation IT platforms). DEXMA will lead the development of the building demand side management application that will reside on the cloud, easily integrated with the Building Energy Management System and with DEXMA's platform (DEXCell Energy Manager). The total addressable European market (aggregated individually equipment of commercial and industrial electricity users) in scope of this project is 300 M€. The union of MTAIR and DEXMA might reach a level of sales of 5 M€ with 2% of European's market share (mainly focus on Spanish and French Market). The abovementioned results together with the development of an innovative solution make the consortium to be optimistic with the project future development. This project is an ambitious proposal of 24 months of duration that will require close collaboration of the partners of the consortium (DEXMA and MTAIR), that presents a global point of view for the development of tools to improve demand response in order to support their later deployment, focusing on increasing the overall behavior of the electric grid.
