Auto-id technology and the internet of things to enhance the quality of health services

The main objective of the project is r&d in the field of autoid and the iot to enhance the quality of health services. Project will deal with home treatment and development of mobile applications for these needs and with technologies which create an added value and benefits for hospital treatment.

The proposed project fits into the new world’s preferred areas of research activities associated with the issue of medical and social care for an aging population - "Silver economy". The results of the proposed project are in two branches according the competences. The Korean side will be focused more on software development, while the European part of the team will cover the technology and the hardware specialization. The Korean’s institution will dealt with the continuous home treatment and care and the development of mobile applications for this purposes (including measurement of their basic life functions, i.e. temperature, blood pressure, pulse, the possibility of remembrance and checking deadlines drug use, improve the quality of home care and palliative care and the possibility of calling for professional assistance). Proposed applications will process the medical data using cloud services, where data will be available by controlled access to both patients and health professionals, while ensuring safety requirements thus processed data. Representatives from the Czech Republic and Slovakia will be engaged in the research and development of technologies that will create added value and benefits especially for hospital treatment and care. Nevertheless, the usage of the project outputs in the home care are not excluded, quite the contrary they are complementary. Czech project team will be focused on marking of selected devices and generally all the important objects of health care, localization in time and space of selected objects and their associated events, such as the usage of augmented reality for visualization support and automation processes of identification, collection, storage, management and distribution of selected medical data. All these processes will be designed in accordance with communication of Internet of Things and using of smart sensors in a classic design and a new generation of integrated sensors, for example in textiles. Slovak institutions are responsible for synergistically interconnected hardware solutions developed primarily on the Czech side, next for the standardization of identification processes in the health sector, especially with selected information systems operating in healthcare facilities. On the Slovak side they will test also the project outputs developed in the laboratory and hospital environments. The proposed system envisages, among others, the introduction of vending machines for dispensing medication exactly as patient medical records and prescription. All of this together with automated checks whether there are no known contraindications at the medicines in the therapeutic dose (or other concomitant doses). This project result will reduce the complexity of the work of nurses preparing drugs and medicines, will help eliminate the risk of error when compiling the therapeutic dose. System will facilitate centralized oversight of drug delivery due to rapid, accurate and cost-effective creation of medicinal benefits by automaton. The introduction of an automated centralized medication process on the principle of a single dose hospital meets the most demanding certification standards (such as JCI - Joint Commission International, which deals with patient safety). The direction of research and development in the care of patients of different ages are increasingly devoted to both hospital care and home care and prevention. To ensure a high standard of care the project activities are also dedicated to the implementation of a new type of bed that will have the parameters of intelligent devices in the concept of IoT. The intelligent bed will be equipped with a newly developed intelligent mattress with integrated surface load sensor, enabling on time preventive alert of personnel service about the necessity of changing the position of the lying patient. Another particular problem for long bedridden patients is the risk of nosocomial infections. One way how to limit these problems should be the proposed solutions in the form of antibacterial intelligent bedding, which reduces the risk of bacterial growth in the area between the patient's body and the mattress. To ensure its function there is, however, the imperative that bedding is regularly serviced and tracks the number of wash cycles or the frequency of such bedding exchanges on the mattress of the bed and thus the individual patient. Therefore, the bedding will be equipped with UHF RFID tag that will be identified by the intelligent reader in the beds.
