Research and development of the interactive logistics map of related services as a part of the european logistics portal to serve as an information source regarding all kinds of transport and handling of goods within the whole logistics chain

The sphere of logistics is one of the most dynamically developed areas of human endeavor. This relates to the continuous increasing volume of transported raw materials, intermediate and final products from the producer to the end consumer. This entails high demands for processing large amounts of evident information. Therefore, companies operating in this area of interest are highly dependent on consequential knowledge of the information technology (IT) and its support. These companies have implemented information systems (IS) which are a type of Transportation Management System (TMS), Warehouse Management System (WMS), or registration systems that are part of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. However, these systems devoid complete information about partners, suppliers, destinations, etc. than those which are registered by users applying their own knowledge. This prevents the increase of an appreciable cooperation among potential new partners and to improve the quality and efficiency of logistical service accessibility. The project "European Portal of Logistic Services" (EPLOS) envisages the development of a forceful web-based tool that enables an easy capture and management of information about individual logistics operators and infrastructure. These data are effectively utilized when planning business activities in the IS WMS, TMS, ERP or manual tracing of necessary information. Thus, it will function as an independent information center of the search and planning tools for all stakeholders of the logistics chain. The framework of the solution: – Map resources which will display information regarding logistics parks, container terminals, road, railway, water and air transport, etc. – Information about logistics platforms (parameters, storage areas, the lessor, extent of services provided, opening hours, contacts, etc. – Information about container terminals (parameters, technical equipment, directions, extent of services provided, opening hours, contacts, etc.) – Information about carriers (means of transport, directions, extent of services provided, contacts, etc.) – Information about freight forwarders (directions, extent of services provided, contacts, etc.) – Information relating to the road network (traffic restrictions, network parameters, mass and dimensional limitations, current status or current traffic, etc.) – Information concerning the rail network (track parameters, authorized based stations, traffic restrictions, loading stoppage, etc.) – Information concerning the water transportation (navigability, river ports and their facilities, etc.) The project objective is a complete research and development of software solutions based on a web platform that will serve as a relevant transmission of necessary information affecting all operators throughout the supply chain and infrastructure needed to provide logistics services. Moreover, it allows a subsequent capture and management, which is adopted while planning business activities in the IS WMS, TMS, ERP or direct search on the website of the IS. This solution is implemented during the first phase in companies located in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland and in the second phase in companies located in other European countries. The project ultimate goal is to systemically integrate this project into currently existing information systems of the project partners. In the implementation stage of the project goal, the partners are guided by efforts to enhance logistical enterprise competitiveness through efficient utilization and shared information. The EPLOS project will offer its wide range of contributions in relation to directly independent and updated information applicable to infrastructure, logistics operators, carriers, freight forwarders, etc. from across Europe. The EPLOS project will compose the basis of its extended results, which will improve the quality and efficiency of logistics service accessibility. The partners assume to prepare a functional prototype in the next three years and pilot testing in the fourth year.
