Operator of rail wagon consignments

R&d of the it system for rail transport cargo operators who order train capacity from railway carriers, use it for transport of their customers' consignments and optimally distribute containers/wagons to the trains.

Unlike railway transport, there are numerous IT solutions in the sphere of road transport which are becoming indispensable for road carriers’ activity and development. They do not concern only the carriers’ specialized intracompany information systems such as TMS (Transportation Management System) and FMS (Fleet Management System), helping improve the efficiency of intracompany processes, but also transportation systems serving as databases of shipments that need to be transported and free vehicles within the whole of Europe. They function as some kind of an exchange of shipments and vehicles and so assist these companies in organizing their transportations more efficiently. Among these systems include, for example, TimoCom, RAALTRANS and TRANS.EU. There is no similar system when it comes to railway transport where there is a free capacity of carriers on the one hand and, on the other, single-wagon-load transportation. The rail transport is considerably limited by pre-defined time tables and places much more complex requirements for the planning and the coordination of subsequent transportations. Such system would make the use of sources more efficient and so would help stop the existing decline in the transport by rail and return these heavy-duty flows from the road to the rail in conditions friendly to the environment. In terms of IT systems, the situation in rail transport is more complicated in many respects, which is also caused by different technological processes the project could partially unify. The goal of the project – Operator of Rail Wagon Consignments (RailCOp) – is the research and development of a central web application for rail transport operators, which will comprehensively cover the given issue and will provide, in particular, tools for managing leased capacities of trains from carriers, tools for managing customer orders, tools for an efficient planning of transportations and full utilization of trains up to the calculation of revenues and expenditures. The RailCOp project directly meets the requirement stated in the EU White Book, calling for the introduction of information and communication technologies in transportation for the purpose of ensuring better and integrated operation control and simplifying administrative procedures through the improved logistics of freight transport and the monitoring and tracking & tracing optimum timetables and traffic flows. From the territorial perspective, the RailCOp project is intended for the European global market and, thus, will be prepared in English language version, with an option of further completion by other languages based on the needs of the users of this system. The result of the project will be an entirely new IT product. The project has a high added value for end-users and a high market potential. The set of end-users of the future system is large enough to be counted in tens at a relatively higher price level, which gives a very good predictability for return on inverstment.
