Round the clock - 24 hours collaborative product development work project.

To achieve 24 hour, non-stop work based on collaborative
work between companies established in different parts of
the world using the most efficient communication techniques.

To achieve non-stop work based on collaborative work among companies established in different parts of the world is a major challenge to every company that wants to achieve greater competitiveness in a global market. Faced with the enormous developments in communication systems and information technologies on the one hand and the increasing demand to get products in the marketplace at the best time on the other, companies have to follow the technology wave and use it to their best advantage. The idea is to use the time difference between four countries (PORTUGAL, MEXICO, GERMANY and THE PEOPLE?S REPUBLIC OF CHINA) in such a way that a non-stop working situation can be achieved. The implementation of such a process is facilitated in the mouldmaking industry due to the increasing use of computer-aided techniques, such as CAD and CAE, for optimization of the interactive communication process during product development. This project is mainly focused on product development, which is a critical stage in all processes, since it will determine the other stages ongoing. So, this stage should involve more people to examine the project requirements in more detail in order to avoid later changes which create delays. The main targets of ROUND THE CLOCK are: - optimization of communication systems (optimization of the interactive communication process) - optimization of collaborative work using a proper work schedule - shorter time to market. Team work techniques in a multicultural environment requires an efficient communication system in order not only to carry out the collaborative work, but also to get similar qualifications or training. This training can be done at distance applying to an interactive methodology based on advanced, high-speed systems. The use of video conferencing or other interactive methodology is another goal of the ROUND THE CLOCK project. Keywords: non-stop work, communications, product development.
