Advanced amphibious aircraft

The advanced amphibious aircraft mission capabilities will
cover forest fire fighting, environmental protection,
surveillance and control, search and rescue, transportation
in specific orographical areas.

The concept definition and related technological studies for an Advanced Amphibious Aircraft have been proposed as an European collaborative project under the EUREKA initiative by ALENIA and DORNIER and the technology Definition Phase was approved at the Ministerial conference held in Copenhagen in June, 1988. The Advanced Amphibious Aircraft is intended to be a multi-mission aircraft capable of performing fire-fighting, environmental control and anti-pollution, search and rescue, surveillance of the 200 nautical mile (NM) Exclusive Economic Zone and transportation duties. The currently proposed Research and Technology Demonstration Phase will cover research and validation on the critical technologies identified in the first phase of the programme, in a cooperation enlarged to GREECE and DENMARK will take into account the modified participation of DORNIER in the programme and will propose detailed planning for the subsequent phases.
