Production technologies for sensors tailored for applications and their integration in electronic components

Development of marketable production technologies for
sensors specifically tailored for applications. The
developed production technology is aimed especially at
smes.

Besides the mass application of micro-technical products, such as mass production in the computer and car industry, there are a great number of applications, especially in medium-sized companies, where small and medium outputs of pieces are needed which are specifically tailored to meet the demands of the customers. There are examples of such small and medium outputs of sensors for applications which are specifically tailored for certain customers or branches of industry, where it becomes apparent that the problems often occur in realising the chain from development over production, testing, calibration and quality assurance to the application. The development of new technologies and the coordination of an effective production and marketing of innovative micro-technical products primarily by small and medium-sized companies can be made highly efficient through a European-wide collaboration including specialists from Eastern European countries. The cost-saving development of production technologies of different sensors for applications and a quick customer service from the technical specification to the delivery with certified quality are intended to be the object of project activities. The project aims to develop technology, equipment and tool sets for the design, production and training for flexible micro-production in small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as integration into the production lines of selected devices, namely: (1) sensors and electronic systems (boards) for mechanical quantities such as acceleration and vibration sensors according to local intelligence, sensitivity, the measuring range or temperature range; (2) sensors and systems for current and magnetic field determination; (3) sensors and systems for micro-optical and colour determination; and (4) micro-fluidic control systems. Within the PAMIS project cooperation should be established between technology development experts, producers of production equipment and test equipment and producers of selected micro-technological devices and components up to selected users of such new systems. A continual integration of quality assurance into the chain from the development over production to application is a main feature. As regards sensor systems, in many cases a start with small quantities is required which is expected to increase in quantity over several years. Even in the market introduction time frame, several changes and redesigns, tests and integration steps are necessary and the production techniques should allow these changes in an economic and flexible manner. The development of techniques for an effective development, production and commercialisation of microsystem products will be most effective through a European-wide cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprises. The production of flexible sensor systems in small and medium quantities requires the cooperation of specialists in all European countries.
