En route applied data communications

Integrated system for on-board electronic data collection
and processing and bi-directional exchange of data between
commercial vehicles and their home base - to improve road
transport efficiency.

Developments in logistic management and the open market system planned for 1992 and onwards, urge transport companies to use faster and more efficient communication facilities than those currently available. An integrated system will be developed and implemented for on-board electronic data collection and processing and bi-directional exchange of data between on-board electronic systems in commercial vehicles and their home base, in order to improve the efficiency of national and international road transport. Driver information and data concerning logistics, vehicle and cargo condition and vehicle location will be automatically exchanged on a store and forward basis. The telecommunication system will have a coverage of the whole of Europe, the Near East and the North of Africa.
