A european network of national e-learning networks with the
objective of establishing viable international e-learning
projects with innovative technology and/or methodology.

Objectives of the Umbrella: 1. Creating commercial el-earning projects and alliances among professional entities in participating countries through: a. Creating a European information network of e-learning companies (suppliers and users) with one coordinating and at least 5 national eLearning nodes. b. Establish a web-based e-learning information and project brokerage tool and arena. c. Arrange virtual and physical B2B brokerage project meetings. d. Cooperation with EU's e-learning Action Plan, European Multimedia Forum, EuroPrix, Trainingvillage, Nordic Interactive, etc. e. Discussing the establishment of a secretariat for continuing information exchange including such as tender information (TED), market reports, programs, projects, 'Best Practices'/case studies/awards, learning technology, seminars, conferences related to e-learning. 2. Conduct a EUREKA e-learning Survey to identify developers, R & D units, their skills and market-oriented project opportunities. The e-Learning industry and its multiple effects. All over the world the societies are increasingly driven by information and knowledge. Structured information become learning elements by means of the Web. Europe in general is well behind the UNITED STATES in the use of the new information and communication technologies. INTERNATIONAL DATA CORPORATION estimates the world market to be worth over 2 billion US dollars year 2000 of which the European industry part is probably less than 20%. The E-learning market is promising and many analysts predict a powerful growth of the e-learning industry in the years to come.
