Prognoses for European transport development indicate a blockade of truck transport around the year 2010. From an E.U. point of view, it is necessary to develop an inland and coastal waterway system. The neglected Polish waterways and antiquated river and coastal craft make their incorporation into the European system impossible. The technical condition of the Polish waterways and the lack of modern inland and coastal ships are today an important impediment to the connection with the European, Ukrainian and Russian well developed and operating waterway systems. Our intention is to perform a range of research and analyses in the area of the technical condition of the Polish inland and coastal waterways to establish probable directions and intensity of future requirements for environmentally friendly inland and coastal ships and the West-East waterways. The danger of emitting contaminants during ship operation in waterways and in harbour waters will be considered. The obtained data and definition of needs will allow the preparation of the technical requirements, initial design and requirements for the design and construction of an environment friendly and cost efficient new type of ECOLOGICAL SHIPS. The project will include analytical work dedicated to reducing the level of danger for inland waterways and coastal areas, ports and parts of adjacent rivers, including a modern technical method of pro-ecological components and systems, to decrease the level of harmful emissions and amounts of waste. The TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF GDANSK has performed a number of research projects and implemented these together with industry. The TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF GDANSK's long experience in advanced solutions for technical and transport problems will provide excellent synergy with the creative capability and knowledge of SINUS DESIGN AND CONSULTING OFFICE. The expected result is the creation of technically advanced, environmentally friendly and cost effective new types of inland and coastal transport and passenger ECOLOGICAL VESSELS.
