Clickstream data processing to support e-business activities

Development of a web analytics information system that provides input clickstream data processing in near real-time together with web enabled and platform independent customizable reporting, in order to support e-business activities.

The project is focused on the acquisition and utilisation of information from the operation of a server that provides web presentation or application. The main objective of the project is to develop a web analytics information system for the analysis of click-stream data, in order to support e-business activities. The worldwide spread WWW service is a significantly user-oriented, multimedia communication channel that serves both non-commercial and, more and more significantly, developing commercial purposes. Although the web presentations focus primarily on the user, some emphasis is put on a user feedback that would enable optimization and personalization of the web presentation for his/her needs. This personalization has a multiple positive effect that stems from the internet user's satisfaction with provided web content or services and further leads to building up the user's loyalty towards the provider of the given content or service. Feedback is meant to be implicit, given the nature of the Internet communication itself that is based on computer communication and network technologies. Thanks to the nature of Internet communication, it is possible to obtain complex information on the feedback without corrupting the existing Internet infrastructure and without the need to make users perform extra activities beyond the framework of their usual interaction with the web presentation. Feedback information on the Internet is acquired from so-called click-stream data, which are records of user access and visits on the web server. Every user that visits the web server and browses its pages, leaves a track of interaction with the Internet presentation behind. From click-stream data, it is possible to obtain a rich source of knowledge, both of the web presentation users and of the presentation itself, and consequently exploit it by means of visualisation and reporting to support e-business activities. The aim of developing a web analytics information system is to concentrate the up-to-date technological findings from areas bound with the solved issues, the combination of which will bring a modern, vertically oriented analytical solution that will provide complex, quality and trustworthy information and knowledge that is of essential importance for e-business. To achieve this quality and trustworthiness at a high level is a complex task, which will be achieved through the realization of the CLIDAP-WEB project.
