Special yarns for technical applications

Development of new yarn designs with specific physical and mechanical parameters and utility properties for the progressive field of multifunctional technical and protective woven and knitted textiles.

The aim of the project is to elaborate textile structures designated for technical purposes. To develop new designs of special yarns for technical applications, the following types of fibres will be used in addition to standard natural and chemical fibres: - synthetic fibres with modified properties (decrease in flammability, bacteriostatic properties, high strength, etc.) - high-tech fibres (aramid, polyimide, antistatic, etc.) - fibres recycled from PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles. The development of new yarn designs will be realised using available spinning technology. Ring spun, rotor spun, combined (multi-component) ROTONA yarns and even friction spun yarns DREF will be developed. In the frame of the project, the elaboration of two types of technical woven fabrics is foreseen: building composites and big bags. For the building composites, fabric structures will be used with a high adhesion to light concrete mass as well as a resistance to climatic and environmental factors such as: - humidity - temperature changes - fire hazard - action of bacteria and fungi. The nature of its application requires high tenacity and durability of textiles. Technical textile products made from Rotona type yarns, which are blends of natural and synthetic fibres of linear density 50/100 tex as well as DREF yarns of linear density 18/800 tex, will be finished and coated to achieve high utility properties. For textiles for big bags for a bulk commodity, cotton-polyester blend yarns and polypropylene yarns will be applied, which are characterised by a high tenacity, appropriate liquid and vapour transport and good thermo-insulation as well as antibacterial properties. Elaborated fabrics will be made from rotor spun yarns, Rotona type and DREF yarns of linear density in the range from 50 to 800 tex. The yarns designated for fabric production will be twisted first. The ring-spun twisted yarns made from cotton/polyester blends (30/50 tex), after appropriate preparation, will be used for a sewing process. In both applications, the use of net structures from high tenacity aramid fibres for two directional strengthening of elaborated constructions is taken into consideration. Moreover, it is planned to use recycled fibres for the construction of technical textiles foreseen. The goal of the project is to develop the technology for the production of knitted textile materials with special applications. Newly elaborated yarns will be used in the research, modified in terms of reduced flammability and increased mechanical fastness as well as better anti-static quality and biological activity. It is assumed that the elaboration of a technology for the production of knitted technical products will be made of polyethylene yarns from recycled PET bottles. The secondary application of these raw materials has a consequence in terms of environmental protection. Considering the wide application of the technical products and their dynamic growth index, the realisation of the research in this context will allow the elaboration of various types of the knitted technical products for special applications, such as: protective clothing for firemen, policemen, fishermen and welders as well products used in fishing, the chemical industry and metallurgy. The project will not only increase knowledge on new knitting techniques and technologies, but will also have a practical application in the production of novel knitted textile materials. Considering the special qualities of the new yarns developed by SPOLSIN Company, metrological and chemical tests of the knitted fabrics will be carried out based on current measurement methods.
