Post-cervical insemination in gilts and sows

To develop an efficient technique to inseminate nuliparous and multiparous sows. We propose the use of an easy to use transcervical catheter, a reduced insemination dose and a single insemination per estrus.

Nowadays there are not really efficient protocols and devices for trans-cervical artificial insemination in nuliparous (gilts) and multiparous sows. Present intrauterine devices consist of a probe, which is inserted through a traditional catheter that is able to pass through the uterus cervix until it reaches the uterus body. The objective of this study is to validate a new easy to use device for trans-cervical insemination avoiding the use of a standard catheter as a guide. Also, insemination dose will be reduced and several kinds of containers and sperm dose additives will be tested. Keywords: pigs, reproduction, insemination.
