Satellite link to an ad-hoc wireless system for fast deployment of rescue teams in disaster areas

Deploying multiple rescue teams in remote or disaster areas, keeping voice and data communication within each team and among the teams at all times, and having a full command and control communication system via a satellite network.

The Savion system (project name Savion) is an ad hoc wireless network communication system enhancing capabilities of existing radio links. The network is based on the Generic Radio Controller, which is a small size lightweight unit that integrates into any handheld, analogue or digital radio device. The System enables: - Data links that operate simultaneously with the voice over the same channel, - Mesh Networking methodology, - Connectivity to different kinds of end units, - Connectivity to standard radio accessories and other rescue team standard equipment, - Multi-users on the same RF (Radio Frequency) bandwidth, - Secure connection via satellite to one or more gateway centres. The unit can work as a stand-alone unit with voice and data capabilities (based on smart RF networking systems) or connected to another radio device. The Generic Radio Control unit will remotely control the radio devices (channel selection, volume, frequency, broadcast or addressed communication selection & full priority selection ability). The Savion end unit works on the 2.4 GHz spread spectrum band and uses a standard short distance transceiver with an advanced algorithm and voice compression system from MAXTECH NETWORKS IP (Internet Protocol). The Savion system is capable of receiving and transmitting data and voice up to 1 mile. Due to the system's mesh networking capabilities, it operates in very harsh environments and conditions which regular radio transmission fails. The satellite access extends coverage areas and provides access to remote control centres as well as adding greater reliability to the system. The Savion System will have the following features: - Data interface supporting all standard protocols, such as: * NMEA * X.21 * 188.200 * USB (Universal Serial Bus) - Voice compression up to 2,400 baud, - Standard data interface, - Standard voice connectors, - Supports voice and data simultaneously on the same channel, - Connects with other radio devices, which do not contain the main GRC end unit, - Wireless smart interface to hand/headsets PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), GPS (Global Positioning System), - Savion unit equipped with small size graphic LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), - Smart 3-button control menu, - Easy to use GUI (Graphics User Interface) and operation with PTT (Push To Talk) menu.
