Diabetes is a serious and costly disease which is becoming increasingly common, especially in developing countries and among disadvantaged minorities. Recently compiled data from the World Health Organisation shows that approximately 246 million people have Diabetes mellitus worldwide, and that this number may increase to 380 million by the year 2025. Much of this increase will occur in developing countries and will be due to population growth, ageing, unhealthy diets, obesity and sedentary lifestyles. It is very important for patients with Diabetes mellitus to prevent development of the complications. The methodology for the effects of natural antioxidants on the development of Diabetes mellitus complications is oriented for usage in preventing complications and/or controlling Diabetes mellitus progress. Hopefully experimental studies will prove the positive effects of Green tea and Ginkgo biloba leaf extracts for the prevention of Diabetes mellitus complications (neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy and angiopathy). The results of the research will enlarge knowledge of natural antioxidant usage in medical practice. In the case of positive results of the research, better monitoring of Diabetes mellitus and its complications would be possible. Consumption of natural antioxidants will give unchallenged values for the treatment and prevention of Diabetes mellitus complications. Thus it will be possible to improve the quality of life for patients and extend their lifetimes. According to the results of the research, it would be possible to optimise technological forms and concentration of the Green tea and Ginkgo biloba leaf extracts, and to estimate new uses for these nutrition supplements. Investigation results would be useful for pharmaceutical companies manufacturing preparations with natural antioxidants, and having clinical documentation for usage of these preparations would be good for marketing. It would be possible to expand the manufacture of medicinal products from natural antioxidants, to create new technological forms, and to seek new herbal materials with natural antioxidants.
