Enterprise resource planning (erp) for smes

The erp system for smes will be developed, tested and promoted. It will be simple to install and maintain, as well as being user friendly and incorporating new technologies. It will run on a desktop, lan (local area network) and intranet.

Years ago, when the personal computer was just coming into its own, accounting software was relatively simple: Its single function was to automate the task of double-entry accounting and produce a straightforward balance sheet. As computers became more robust and integrated databases standardised, accounting software developers added more functions—including cost accounting, manufacturing resource planning (MRP), customer resource management (CRM), human resources (HR) and payroll. To differentiate these superproducts from the simple accounting programmes, marketing-minded vendors christened the new packages enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Enterprise Resource Planning software aids and controls the ERP management system, which is a system that integrates and automates all facets of business operations. This includes planning, manufacturing and sales, while more recent ERP software products encompass marketing, inventory control, order tracking, customer service, finance and human resources as well. The aim of the proposed project is to develop Enterprise Resource Planning software which will help SMEs to: * Increase employee productivity and boost operational efficiencies by automating and managing core business processes. * Simplify access to vital business information. Eliminate mistakes and more accurately track financial information via automation. * Consolidate general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and all your spreadsheets into one easy-to-access system. * Reduce administration costs by integrating accounting with personnel processes. There are several complex ERP systems which are too complicated and expensive for SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise), especially for former socialistic countries that are in transition from one economic system to the free market and that have specific requirements and sometimes strong language barriers when using existing ERP solutions available on the market. Most of the partners in the project are from different former socialist countries, so they are aware of problems and market demands. They have the potential and resources to develop strong ERP products for global markets. The project will be carried out in the following stages: * user analysis * conceptualisation of product * software requirements development * development of software modules * testing of software modules * integration of system * testing of whole system * pilot installation * preparation of technical and user documentation, and demo version of product * promotion of product * marketing of the product To make joint work more efficient the project website will be developed with tools to be used for communication, saving documentation and testing the product. For the monitoring of project progress, the PERT method, there will be at least two meetings per year in different locations, where project reports will be discussed and activities for subsequent periods planned.
