Development of a new system to guarantee quality, safety and manufacturing in swine and poultry production

The development of a new manufacturing and management system for feeding production designed to guarantee different aspects such as quality, safety, traceability and so on in swine and poultry production.

The aim of this project is the development of an automatic feeding system for swine and poultry in order to guarantee quality, safety and production. This development will mean a change of traditional feeding systems for animal production, involving the highest control and automated management of all processes involved in animal feeding. This system is necessary due to the different crises and alerts in sectors such as swine and poultry (dioxins, PPC, Avian influenza and so on). These diseases are generating distrust in primary sectors. The proposed system will dispose of automatic modules for historical data acquisition and records of processed feeding. This module will facilitate data processing about raw materials, suppliers and so on linked to animals. This development will have an influence on competition improvements, allowing for the increase of performance of swine and poultry farms. Another important advantage is that the final items for consumers will have high quality and guarantees. Specific project objectives are: - Answering to market demands on food safety due to the different crises in the swine and poultry sectors. - Improvements of feeding production technologies for different farm species, guaranteeing the quality and origin of raw materials for animal feeding, given that this point is the first step in the food chain. - Automatic control of animal feeding, improving food homogeneity and its absorption. This objective will allow for increased final production and will improve the internal management of farms. - Development of management software for the traceability of animal feeding systems with the purpose of tracking different food alterations, dioxins, FMD and so on. This software will record different rations with references of raw materials, suppliers, processes, etc. improving the information that will be required on food processing. - Study of different varieties of animal feeding that will be produced by the system, testing the components and/or ingredients of rations and evaluating how the final products are affected (carcases, eggs and so on), guaranteeing the quality and safety and improving the nutritional value. The main impact for the sector will consist of guaranteeing the historical data for animal feeding, analysing the nutritional value for final products, and offering an innovative solution for sanitary problems that are occurring at this moment. The farmer will know in real-time the origin of the food, allowing the farmer to face any possible incidences detected in the market. This system also allows for providing real information on raw materials and processes related to animal feeding to final customers, health bodies, administration, etc. In terms of industrial, social and economic objectives, this project will allow swine and poultry farmers to reduce manpower time spent on producing animal feed. The project results will allow the consortium companies to obtain products with high value, making them different to the sector, and improving their market positions.
