Compact yarns and their application in flat textiles

Research, development and manufacture of compact yarns from high-performance fibres. Processing of compact yarns into woven and knitted fabrics.

The main goal of the research team is the development of both compact yarn ranges and flat textile materials, in addition based on high-performance fibres. Technology for compact circular yarn manufacturing allows for aerodynamic parallelisation and condensation of fibres after the main drafting zone of ring-spinning machine output. The air current created by the vacuum generated in the perforated drum condenses the fibres. Fibres are fully controlled all the way from the nipping line after the drafting zone to the spinning triangle. By adding the nip roller, a twist formation is prevented in the condensing zone. The compacting efficiency in the condensing zone is enhanced by a specially formed and patented air guide element. Optimal interaction of the compacting elements ensures complete condensation of all fibres. The different principle of the compact spinning technology brings a different structure and properties of final compact yarns as compared to the classical ring-spun one (generally speaking higher tenacity, the same tenacity at lower twist, lower yarn hairiness, high abrasion resistance, etc. can be achieved). Therefore, the compact spinning process completes an available yarn range. But this technology neither is nor can be considered in the future as the substitute of the classic ring-spinning process. Recently achieved properties of compact yarns open unexpected opportunities for up-to-date textile products - woven as well as knitted fabrics. The project solution will be divided into several stages following the yarn application to different product groups. Team research activities will cover: 1. Development of the technology of compact yarn preparation as well as production based on high-performance fibres. 2. Investigation of the influence of the different fibre types on yarn parameters as well as on the technological process of their production. 3. Searching and exploitation of compact yarn application advantages. 4. Development and patterning of the flat fabric range (woven as well as knitted fabrics). 5. Testing of fibres, spinning mill semi-products, yarns and flat textile materials. 6. Application of flat textiles at manufacturers and end users. Within the research project, the following fibre materials with special properties will be used: − Chemical fibres and their modifications - for example non-flammable or antibacterial (PES (Polyethersulphones), VS, PP, PAN). − High-performance fibres with improved heat and fire resistance (Nomex, Conex, Kanekaron, Kermel, P 84, Ryton, Procon, atd.). − Blends of the abovementioned fibres with standard as well as modified cellulose ones. − Blends of natural fibres such as cotton, flax and hemp. − Antistatic fibres (metal, carbon). Development and patterning the flat textile range (woven as well as knitted fabrics) will be focused on the particular product groups: − Protective clothing, − Filtration textiles, − Sportswear and outdoor clothing, − Medical textiles, etc. Parameters of flat textiles must correspond to valid European standards, mainly in applications directed at the group of protective clothing or the medical area. Regarding the new requirements of modern clothing products, activities in research processes from this range connected with obtaining a physiological comfort will be carried out.
