Development of organic gluten free products

Creation of a range of organic and gluten free products for coeliac people and organic product consumers.

The main objective of this EUREKA project is the creation of a range of innovative products in the dietetic European market. These products must mix two important characteristics, ORGANIC & GLUTEN FREE, for coeliac people and organic product consumers. ORGANIC: Organic food is produced according to legally regulated standards. For crops, it means they were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilisers or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionising radiation or food additives. For animals, it means they were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones. Also, at all levels, organic food is produced without the use of genetically modified organisms. GLUTEN FREE PRODUCTS: Coeliac is an auto-immune disease, which means that the body produces antibodies that attack its own tissues. For people with coeliac disease, this attack is triggered by gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. Some people with coeliac disease also react to oats. A gluten-free diet is a diet completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals: wheat (including Kamut and spelt), barley, rye, oats, and triticale. To achieve the objective of this project, technological cooperation between French and Spanish companies is necessary. The Spanish company, NATURAL ALIMENT FACTORY, has been making high quality gluten free products since 1998, while ALPES BISCUITS produces several ranges of organic products and is a leader in FRANCE. Once a new product is developed, it is necessary to adapt the technology to the production process. Commercialisation is the last phase of this project. It will be necessary to decide on several points such as markets to be present in, branding and marketing campaigns. All of these points could be part of a cooperation agreement between both enterprises.
