New flat photovoltaic panel with low sun concentration and one axis tracking.

Our project consists in developing a new flat photovoltaic panel. The issues of developing anew panel in the actual photovoltaic market are: - The final cost of the product; - The ecological footprint of the process to produce photovoltaic system. The NFPP is going to fulfil those conditions thanks to its conception which includes a small quantity of silicon cells. The GP is composed with several cylindrical non-reflective glass tubes. On the upper part of each tube is bonded a Fresnel film concentrating linearly the sun energy about ten times on a standard silicone cell, located on the bottom of the tube. Each tube is slowly, step by step, turned around its axis by an Electro mechanical small device, in order to maintain the tube perpendicular to sun rays during east west sun apparent movement. Therefore the tubes have to be positioned as much as possible North-South. The whole system has been integrated in a frame which able to: * Use the photovoltaic system as a "standard" panel. * Develop direct solar application such as solar farm, solar shelters. The design of those mechanical and construction products will be leaded by NAVALLON Group. NAVALLON is involved since 1946 in steel construction, mechanical systems design for industry and since 2007 in photovoltaic plants construction and exploitation. Fresnel film will be designed by one of the best European specialist, Professor Ralf Leutz, in Germany. The film is made of silicone and manufactured on a special matrix. This technology is used today, for plan Fresnel lens using silicone film on glass (SOG), by several companies including 3M and Fresnel Optics. Flat thin Fresnel film has then to be introduced and bonded to the internal face of the glass tube. The tracking algorithm is very simple and will be based on a timer and a small processor showing the raising and sunset times according to the location and the date of the day. The mechanism will include a small electrical step motor with gears converting a circular to linear and then to circular movement again. The cylindrical tubes are air tight in order to prevent moisture and dust to penetrate; the thickness of the glass will be enough to allow day night pressure variations due to temperature modification. The remaining part of the panel structure will be manufactured out of a material having a very good resistance to ultraviolet and a life time of at least 25 years. The design of the whole system will be driven by manufacturability considerations in order to have a cheap, reliable and really sustainable photovoltaic product, which is our final goal. The feasibility of this new kind of panel had be proved by early studies and tests done in ISRAEL by GLEN LTD and THERMOGUIDE LTD; the concept is described in patent demand, application number 12/774,943 from the 05/06/2010.
