Humidity gauging and refrigeration optimisation

Measuring humidity and controlling the humidity level precisely in special refrigerator compartments especially demanding high humidity levels such as vegetable and fruit compartments in order to improve the present refrigeration performance.

The aim is; 1) to create a new refrigerator which has improved functions by using special humidity sensors in different compartments of the refrigerator in order to develop the present refrigeration technology. 2) to develop a quite new humidity sensor specified especially by the refrigerator industries demands. 3) to build a refrigerator prototype with active humidity control in order to maintain the base of a brand new refrigerator family not only in Arcelik but also in the world. Measuring the humidity and controlling the humidity level of the environment in household appliances is not an easy task. Time-consuming tests and many times doubtful results are common. We suggest a project with a broad approach in this area. This proposal is intended to be a general project for defining the sensor requirements of the refrigerator, determining the mechanical details of the humidity sensors (housing of sensor, sensor location in the refrigerator, etc.) and building a refrigerator prototype mainly concerning both mechanical and electronics engineering. One of the goals with this approach is to give participants a broader experience in using humidity sensors particularly in household appliance products. The project consists of mainly four parts; 1. Evaluate functionality of Sensirion SHT sensor in appliance Outcome: Information about mounting position, specification requirements, potential chances and difficulties, measurement data of SHT in appliance, etc. 2. Define requirement specifications for sensor module to allow industrialization of the module Outcome: Sensor requirements. 3. Sensor data acquisition in appliance and integration of sensor into controller environment of appliance Outcome: Data to estimate benefit of improved control system, prototype of sensor module, concept to control appliance with humidity sensor 4.Building a refrigerator prototype with humidity sensors in the most convenient places of refrigerator. Outcome: Prototype refrigerator in which the humidity sensor solutions are applied.
