Computerised engineering unit

New engineering working methods by the use of databases and
appropriate applications, where users will be genuinely
assisted by computerised systems.

The aim of the project is to achieve a completely new engineering working method through the development of data bases and appropriate applications, where users will be genuinely assisted by computerised systems, both in researching data and in performing tasks and preparing new data. This comprehensive integrated computerised engineering system will involve: * applications software permitting computerisation and integration of various engineering tasks; * the introduction of shared data base structures, facilitating dialogue between engineering users, and ensuring that data supplied is consistent; * the introduction of the appropriate data processing resources, hardware and software, drawing on the latest technology (local networks, relational databases, CAD, artificial intelligence and Expert Systems); and, the perfecting of working methods adapted to the new circumstances, as well as the training and production operations which are the necessary accompaniment of this change. The system will be of particular interest for the following three sectors: - industrial plant; - infrastructure; - construction.
