consortium for research, development and exploitation of
e/sdc's structural composite systems.

The project is managed by EIA London, and is divided into 5 'key tasks', plus two 'support tasks' (7 task sectors), targeted at the Research, Development and Exploitation of Energy and Stress Dissipating Composite systems (E/SDCs) for Transportation Vehicles and other sectors. It is linked to the EIA Concerted Actions Umbrella, covering a multidisciplinary approach to the materials, manufacturing and applications of composites in multi-sectoral markets; and comprising 10 'Task Groups', represented by 30 participating and affiliated organisations through 5 European countries who meet in London (or other European locations) on a regular basis - this 'Consortium' and its Task Group actions are coordinated by EIA. It is the largest composites for transportation concerted action in the world and has a current EU Government supported research turnover of 1.5 MECU annually - rising to 3.5 MECU after 1995. The project runs to 2003, with a current commercial portfolio of 76.5 MECU, and an estimated 3.6 billion ECU European market (18 billion worldwide). EIA concerted actions umbrella: 1. Rapid Batch Manufacturing Systems * Modular Soft Tooling and Mandrel Systems for rapid batch production of large structures. * Modular Hard Tooling and Bolsters for fast volume production of bodyshell and beam systems. 7. Structural and Cushioning Engineering * Structural Engineering and Simulation Solutions for vehicle bodyshells, tanks and buildings * Mechanical Design and Simulation Tools for integrated impact articulation and suspension. * Supportive Components and Assemblies, e.g. Bogey Frame/Load Point FW and overinjection. 8. Production and Repair Support Logistics * Computerised Placement, Orientation and Quality Control for Multi-axial Fibre Systems. 9.
