The aim of the project is to develop the new european system for planning, optimisation, managing and monitoring of exceptional transports on railways with particular focus on multilingual application environment and research on implementation of ec tsi into european railways with wide gauge

Given the technical nature of rail transport, the railway is the most suitable for transporting large volumes over long distances. That is why the field of rail transports in Europe is focused mainly on the transport of block trains and on long-distance international transport. Technologically and economically complicated segment of single wagon loads compete with more operational, but the ecologically less favourable road transport. A significant shift towards sustainable modes of surface transportation and related changes of the division of transport services (modal split) is offered by intermodal transport (especially container), which recently recorded dynamic growth and significant support from the European Commission. But extraordinary consignments (EXceptional TRansports [English] / TRansport EXceptionnel [French] = TREX) are a highly specialized segment with small volumes of shipments, and therefore to some extent is of the heading interests of European railways. As a result, also exceptional transport are about to move on the road, although rail service provides wide range of benefits – in addition to environmental benefit it is especially strong technical background of railway vehicles and precise traffic management at each moment of the transport chain. This adverse situation is also contributed by a relatively lengthy time taken to on rail, particularly internationally. As “Exceptional Transport” (TrEx) on the railway is considered a consignment that creates to any one carrier or rail infrastructure manager, who participates in the transport, special problems with regard to railway equipment or vehicles, either through its exceptional dimensions, its weight or its specific characteristics. It may therefore be accepted for carriage only under specific technical or operational conditions which must be discussed in advance between all carriers in the transport. The EUREKA Project will result in a system that will contribute to strengthening the role of rail transport of exceptional transports and in the area of freight transportation in general (as freight transport by rail has traditionally been supported in terms of ecology, security and sustainability of a number of international organizations, such as OSJD, CIT, etc.) and to achieve favourable modal split in the segment of exceptional transports. The system is intended for all entities that are involved in rail transport, and will have a direct impact on safety, reliability and traffic flow – speed up the planning and transport adjustment of exceptional transports and provide automated mechanisms for calculating the route of the consignments.
