The development of hearing-evaluation equipment for people unable to give feedback.

The development of hearing-evaluation equipment for people unable or not wanting to give feedback during a hearing test. Thus the project develops a new device capable of detecting and transforming the magnetic signs emitted by the auditory nerve.

The overall objective of our project is to develop a hearing-device. The project’s idea arose from the fact that there are two groups of people who either cannot or do not want to give feedback to the audiologist. Children and infants belong to these groups, since we cannot ask them to raise their hands in case they can hear a whistling sound; another group is that of people working in a noisy environment, e.g. in a factory. The latter ones often allegedly affirm to have suffered a hearing loss due to the employer’s fault (often after having been fired) and sue their former employer asking for compensation. The hearing-device will not need any collaboration or truthfulness and the test can be done during the patient’s sleep (thus infants will not have to be woken up unlike in the case of the devices in use). Obviously the focus group may include a variety of other cases, like for example that of people with disabilities, elderly people and so on. The essence of the device is that the sound it produces reaches the auditory nerve which emits a magnetic signal detected by our inventor’s device. The device will be designed to be light, compact, will not need the presence of a physician but a nurse or social worker will also be competent in using it. Another important aspect to mention is that the device will visualize the intercepted signal in a graphic form as used by the technological apparatus in use today thus the learning of a new code system will not be necessary. The process goes as follows: the sample is taken from the patient who signs the printed page (in case of infants and children this is obviously not necessary), and then the sample is compared to a reference sample collection and then evaluated by the physician. If there are deviations the patient is tested again and treated if required, etc. In the field of occupational health it is of value to have the employees diagnosed when hired and this condition may be later compared to the employee’s condition at the time in question which gives possibilities to come to a conclusion. Innovative points: 1. we develop a device able to measure of the auditory nerve’s functioning 2. the software is designed in order to process the intercepted signals 3. this is an electrotechnical invention: we have to transform the signals emitted by the detector to 5 V (volt) digital signals that can be processed by a computer. The invention is Hungarian. Both the Hungarian and the Slovakian companies have the necessary experience in the required fields of science for implementing the innovation.
