Retorik project aims to develop an innovative platform of services and tools in artificial intelligence

With digital convergence in the field of telecommunications, there is a significant transformation of our society called "Information Society". To support this transformation, the user needs appropriate equipment and interfaces making its choices easier for a friendly use. Services interfaces on Internet in the professional field have gradually become ineffective given the extent, variety and complexity of the information provided to the users. In addition, companies cloud services (information silos, applications and databases) have severed the link between emotional and social users and personal in charge of these services. The highly visual interfaces equipped with understandable multimodal features are therefore the most appropriate representation for accessible content and services. Indeed, the use of animated conversational agents as a support for human-computer interaction is a factor motivating and making user interaction easier with computer applications. The multimodal dimension characterizing this exchange can use several methods of communication input (from the user to the system) and / or output (from the system to the user). Terms mean here the communication channels used by humans to transmit information (driving conditions) and receive (perceptual modalities). In this context, the objective of the RETORIK project is to develop a complete platform of cognitives services and tools in Artificial Intelligence. This platform will enable to meet the following objectives: • Improve factors for better acceptability and credibility of virtual agent: - Development of a module connected to services enabling to integrate user personnal data; - Development of a module enabling to take into account the user emotional context. • Strengthen the adherence to the virtual agent by developing a emotional and social link between the user and the virtual agent: - Development of a commonsense ontology enabling to provide knowledge to the virtual agent to hold an exchange with the virtual agent; - Implementation of a reasoner to provide appropriate responses to user profile; - Implementation of an assisted learning module taking better account users needs; - Development of a filtering engine enabling to decrease the cognitive overload. Once these goals achieved, we will provide a new type of virtual agent more accepted because more credible et closer to users. - DAVI, a French SME created in 2000, is today the only company to develop and commercialize a complete Human-machine communication system (3D interface and business conversational engine), resulting of the collaboration with recognized laboratory of research (CNR LIP6, INRIA). DAVI technology platform enables the implementation of virtual representation (assistant virtual character animated 3D object ...) able to animate, move and communicate with others, both verbally and non-verbally freely throughout type applications on all digital media digital. The company invests today more than 50% of its turnover in R&D projects with a team of 10 persons. - CENGSOFT, a Turkish SME established on 2010, is a software research and development center specialized on computational linguistics techniques and machine learning methodologies. Established by means of a research project funded by Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey, the company has an ongoing project that is supported by the Republic of Turkey’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization (KOSGEB) about Content Analysis. Having strong relationships with the faculty members and graduate students, the team members proudly carry out academic research in the Department of Computer Engineering, Middle East Technical University (METU).
