Intends to provide an integrated, complete/open environment
to support business applications engineering. This openness
will allow it to be smoothly introduced into existing
organisations and support their evolution.

Project objectives: Put on the market an open software engineering environment based on a Portable Common Tool Environment (PCTE) and dedicated to business applications development. Potential customers (companies and public bodies) will be involved at an early stage to validate the major choices and test the resulting products. Main Market Requests: Make available unified environments for the development of information systems which have the following features: increasing complexity, distributed, with heterogeneous architectures, using sophisticated graphical man/machine techniques, requiring high quality and security, implying close cooperation between teams, requiring frequent developments over several years. Secure existing investments in networks, workstations, mainframes, development methods, CASE tools, data dictionaries, developed projects, etc. Main Project Requirements: Provide a distributed and heterogeneous development environment which will integrate various workstations (using DOS WINDOWS, WINDOWS NT and others such as UNIX) and various mainframes. Provide a meta model for the repository and information models to allow integration of the most popular design methods, programming languages, database management system (DBMS), 4GL and CASE tools. Provide complete repository tools to administer data and integrated management services (process management, version, configuration and change management). Major Developments: Design and develop the information models with associated services and application programming interfaces. They will allow the implementation of repositories according to the methods, the tools and specific customer concepts. Develop an architecture which may be implemented on heterogeneous networks including PCs, UNIX workstations and servers, and which exploits CORBA and state-of-the-art message servers. Integrate partners' CASE tools: CARIATIDES from STERIA, ISW from ITS. Develop toolset supporting Object-Oriented Methodologies. Integrate or interface other tools, technologies and approaches: most popular CASE tools, re-engineering and reverse engineering, components re-use, cooperative work support, programming support tools, metric assessment of maturity level of existing development systems, formal correctness verification. Industrialisation: Complete documentation, training and commercial materials will be produced. Validation will be carried out through pilot projects.
