Instrument panel for automotion, based on plastic electronics and high thermal dissipation capacity

The goal of the present project is the development of a novel and multifunctional instrument panel (ip) according to the automotive industry requirements. The ip will be based on plastic electronics and high thermal dissipation capacity.

It's well known that automotive is the most innovative industrial sector and one of the most important in terms of turnover and employment. Concretely, according to European Automobile Manufacturers Association, more than 12 million families depend on the sector for employment and play an important part in Europeans’ lives, from employment and social benefits to education, innovation, investment, and product and mobility concepts. This innovative characterization implies that all stakeholders in the sector, mainly SMEs, have to be constantly improving their products to overcome the speed fostered by the market. Consequently, and for answering to this issue at SME level this project proposal is presented. The company CEFA (TIER-1 automotive supplier), as the project promoter, has detected an opportunity in the automotive market. This company considers instrument panels (IP) in the future vehicles should be able to incorporate electronic quick control devices for a better and rapidly manipulation by the drivers and co-drivers, gaining vehicle control functionalities, reducing driving risks and, in consequence, avoiding accidents. The goal of the present project is the development of a novel and multifunctional instrument panel (IP) according to the automotive industry requirements. The IP will be based on plastic electronics and high thermal dissipation capacity. The idea of the project is to integrate, through an innovative manufacturing process, the IP structure with a platform based on sensors and OLEDs for controlling different vehicle functionalities. The project will be focused on three important aspects. By one hand, the design and development of an instrument panel structure based on thermoplastics (CEFA with AITIIP, TECCI, BADA and SGA) whose manufacturing process will be optimized for an injection molding to meet the requirements both from automotive industry as the new embedded electronic part. Secondly, the design and develop of the embedded electronic platform to integrate into the IP (Tecos, subcontractors AITIIP and IK4-CIDETEC). Finally, the project will be focused on the design and development of the manufacturing process for the heterogeneous integration between the IP structure and the electronic platform in an unique manufacturing step (TECCI, BADA, Tecos and subcontractor IK4-CIDETEC). Consequently, important benefits in the manufacturing process will be achieved, optimizing the development of the whole product in an unique manufacturing step. Taking into account the aim of the project, the development of the electronic platform will be object of innovative technologies and novel components, nanocomposites-based film, important benefits in thermal behaviour, etc. The functional devices will be governed by an integrated signal conditioning system and will also be embedded by injection and thermoforming technologies. The novel developed platform will be formed by printed pressure sensors and organic light emission diodes (OLED), ultimate generation PCBs, plastic electronic, etc. The project will obtain an integrated instrument panel prototype to demonstrate the functionalities of the new product by testing. This prototype will be the base for the upscaling of the new instrument panel to incorporate in vehicles manufactured by CEFA's customers.
