Research and development of ergonomic and fireproof undergarment for sectors with fire risk
The initiative aims to consolidate multiple lines of research that will be focused on research and ergonomic fireproof undergarments, with improved functional and structural properties compared with those existing currently that behave like a second skin.
The initiative of this project arises from firms MLS ELEBE 1992 S.L. and PREDILNICA LITIJA D.O.O., which are intended to consolidate multiple lines of research to be carried out in parallel, and will be aimed at the investigation of fireproof and ergonomic underwear, functional and structural properties superior to those existing currently that behave like a second skin. The development of these garments will be mainly for the sports world, the protection of motorcycle and Formula 1 drivers, but also will serve other markets for protective clothing against electrical hazards, oil and gas, chemical and industrial, where the user, when exposed to an ignition source such as a flame or an electric arc protection equipment requires external and internal use.
At present, there are many highly featured protection equipment, however, in the case of undergarments, the effect on the flames is very limited, they are uncomfortable, too heavy, with seams that can cause injuries in skin and are almost non-breathable. These disadvantages often generate health problems such as dizziness and fainting by dehydration, and even cause heat stress with consequent loss of performance and concentration.
Given these drawbacks, the companies involved in the project, believe that there is a clear need for research and development in such "second skin" garments, improving and adding new properties to the existing market. To do so, the challenge based on two specific aspects of major importance is as follows:
Comfort and ergonomics providing greater adaptability of undergarments to the body to act as a second skin, removing seams to prevent chafing of the skin, and reducing the weight per unit area therefore clothes will be lighter, all this, for obtaining technical garments designed for thermal protection at work and sports market where there is risk of exposure to high temperatures.
Thermal Barrier: Keep the durability of the property in the developed fireproof undergarments, mainly in terms of washing and mechanical strength.
