The low-hydro project aims to develop new cost-effective technological solutions for high efficiency hydropower generation capable of tapping the potential of low head applications (15m) many small hydropower projects are never realized as the development costs or investment becomes too large. A significant part of the cost is the civil works part (dam, penstoc, power house, etc.) And different studies in norway and spain have shown that electromechanical equipment counts for around 40% of total investment. In this way novel turbine design and new engineering solutions will contribute significantly to installation simplification and lcoe reduction. Furthermore our multipurpose approach will also contribute to climate change mitigation and security of energy supply, as well as to keep eu in a leading position in the field of hydropower.
