This project is a graphene energy storage project to develop a new graphene-lithium-polymer battery technology with higher energy density per kilogram and safer packaging. Lightweight and highly-efficient batteries are key to the electrification of transportation industries, no more so than in the next generation of unmanned aerial vehicles (uavs), offering sustainable solutions and enhanced performance for heavy lift operations, equipment transport, security and emergency repairs, especially in remote and difficult locations where adverse conditions prevail. The objective is to develop a better cell and a better pack utilizing next generation energy materials, applications and processes including coatings, membrane, alloys, composites and thermal management. By 2027, idtechex research projects the total available market for electric uavs will reach $6.2 billion, up from $2.5 billion in 2017 with revenues from all uav services generating $8.7 billion annually by 2025.
